34,250 licenses renewed through Auto Renewal Service

Business Registration and Licensing Sector of Dubai has launched the service of Auto-renewal of commercial licenses in the country. Statistical figures reveal that a total of 34,250 licenses are auto-renewed to date in 2019 which constitutes the growth of 47%. The total auto-renewed licenses comprise of 73.2% Commercial license, 24% Professional license, 2.2% Industrial license, and 0.6% Tourism license.

The license can be auto renewed in just two simple steps and takes less than two minutes. In the first step, the Business owners need to send a text message to ‘6969’ with their trade license number, and in return, they will receive a ‘payment authorization.’ In the second step, the business owners have to make the payment through the channels provided in the text message. The license can be renewed up to four years, provided that the lease stands valid. Add the number of years in the text message if the license renewal is for more than a year. Further, the address of the company must not be changed from the previous one. 

Some commercial activities are needed to take external approvals for completing the renewal process. It includes four commercial activities- transportation by public taxi, transportation by limousine, rent-a-car, and non-emergency transportation services. These activities need approval from the Roads and Transport Authority, Department of Tourism, and Commerce Marketing as per the segment involved. 

The main economic activities covered by the licenses auto-renewed during the first half of 2019 were General trade, readymade clothing, perfumes and cosmetics, dyes and paints, watches and spare parts, gifts, textiles, plumbing and sanitary installations, and flooring and carpentry. Reports also revealed that Indians led the list of auto-renewed licenses among the top 10 nationalities in H1 of 2019, lined up by Pakistanis, British, Egyptians, Jordanians, Lebanese, Chinese, Bangladeshis, Canadians, and Americans.

The service has proven to be of great value to the businesses in Dubai and is contributing to transforming it into a smart city.
