2020 Toyota Corolla to be unveiled in the US

ABU DHABI: Hail internet! Gone are the times when a car would launch and we’d get to know the next day, maybe next week at times. But now, even before the automaker plans to roll out the unveil dates, we get the leaks, specs, and what not? “The world’s most popular car is about to get greater than ever”, has said Toyota on its USA Facebook page. On the coming Thursday, 15 November at 7 PM PST (Pacific Standard Time) will come alive the 12th generation Corolla sedan. Unarguably one of the most popular and better cars in the world, the new Corolla’s unveiling followed by the launch should excite any automobile enthusiast. Toyota has been pelting cars down recently, no kidding.

The image that Toyota has used to announce the reveal date shows some resemblance to the Corolla hatchback, but there are some striking differences too. Instead of the upper grille, the Toyota logo is now placed on the body itself. The 3-layer LED DRLs are carried over from the hatchback, however, the fog lights are now horizontal LEDs with honeycomb style housing. Replacing the funky looking chin on the hatchback is now a much longer and straighter setup, giving the Corolla sedan a calmer look.

Powertrain of the 12th generation Toyota Corolla sedan is unknown. However, the Corolla hatchback which was unveiled in March, earlier this year is powered by a 2.0-litre Dynamic Force naturally-aspirated motor. This new engine is capable of producing 170 PS of max power and a peak torque of 205 Nm. This motor also features the D-4S direct and port injection system by Toyota, as well as VVT-iE on intake and VVT-i on the exhaust. An Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) or a Dynamic-Shift CVT are the available transmission options on the Corolla hatchback.

Going by the Toyota’s recent activities and launches, the new Corolla sedan is for sure going to be another successful iteration of the iconic saloon.
