Toyota Granvia

On the inside, the Toyota Granvia has a functional layout for the dashboard and various controls, which are ergonomically well-placed and exhibit impressive levels of fit and finish. However, the overall layout now looks a bit dated in the new-age era, when everything is becoming more digital and fancier in its appearance.

The driver’s cockpit of the Toyota Granvia, comprising a T-themed steering wheel with silver and faux wood inserts and a conventional instrument console with a TFT MID in between, looks thoughtfully designed. The same goes for the centre console of the dashboard of the Toyota Granvia, which looks block-themed with a large touchscreen infotainment system with vertical silver-garnished AC vents flanking it.

The lower slanted and asymmetric centre console of the Toyota Granvia houses the transmission lever, which is easy to operate. The co-drivers side, inner door panels and front centre armrest get more faux wood finish for an enrichened appeal, giving a nice contrast to the dual-tone black and beige cabin.

The cabin of the Toyota Granvia is decently equipped with premium features like leather upholstery, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, heated seats, a powered driver’s seat, a wireless charger and a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel.

The Toyota Granvia has got the typical boxy design reminiscent of traditional minivans. However, the Japanese carmaker has ensured that it looks a bit desirable by making its front profile appealing with a fancy design.

At the front, the Toyota Granvia has got an aggressive-looking large-sized grille, which gets a thick chrome slat at the top and three slim-looking chrome slats below it. There is an additional U-shaped chrome garnish spread across the width of the boot lid while merging with the headlamps on their inner edges. The headlamps here are angular, wing-like units, which offer all-LED illumination, thus making the front end look even more appealing. There is more chrome for the triangular surrounds for the fog lamps and a thin strip running across the air dam in the front bumper.

The side profile is where the boxiness in the design of the Toyota Granvia looks more evident. The minivan gets large-sized side window panels, which completely cover the upper half of the side profile, and ensure that the cabin feels airy on the inside (more on that later). The minivan rides on machined alloy wheels, which sit below the double-rounded wheel arches. Adding more premium appeal to the side profile is this chrome strip running between the wheel arches at the bottom of the door panels.

At the back, the Toyota Granvia has a squarish design, with vertically-placed tail lamps with LED inserts on the outer edges. The large rear windscreen and rectangular license plate housing of the Toyota Granvia is accompanied by a large U-shaped chrome garnish spread across the width of the boot lid, mimicking the lower layout of the front grille. 

The boxy design of the Toyota Granvia makes it a not-so-impressive vehicle behind the steering wheel due to its prominent body roll at higher speeds. However, the suspension setup, which is a combination of Macpherson struts at the front and a 4-link coil spring at the rear, ensures that the Toyota Granvia feels planted even at higher speeds. This three-row minivan with captain seats provides enough room and comfort in all of its three rows.

The standard powertrain combination employed in the Toyota Granvia is the duo of the 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 270 PS and a peak torque output of 370 Nm and is one of the most refined and reliable engines in the minivan category.

The equipment list of Toyota Granvia, when it comes to safety, includes front, side, curtain and driver knee airbags, ABS with EBD, cruise control, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring system, lane keeps assist, front and rear parking sensors, rearview camera, vehicle stability control, traction control and tyre pressure monitoring system.

While the Toyota Granvia might not be the most modern minivan on sale, it is decently premium to look at and be in, with enough comfort, convenience and safety features and a reliable and smooth engine under its hood.
