Suzuki SX4

Introduction:

First introduced in 2006, SX4 is one of the leading cars in the arsenal of Suzuki. The car was intended solely for the European market but the firm response made company to widen its reach and launch in other geographies. SX4 is the third model of Suzuki's world strategy whose theme is sporty. The 5- door hatchback-crossover is elegant and dynamic in both its performance as well as looks that makes it stand out of the crowd in the segment. The new vision of Suzuki is clearly reflected in this compact car which is being fused with Suzuki crossed DNA.

Engine, mileage & variants:

Engine choice is limited as Suzuki has equipped a 2.0-litre VVT, 4-cylinder engine in new SX4. The maximum power measures 150 hp at 6200 rpm alongside maximum torque of 190 Nm at 4000 rpm. The multi point injection along with CVT (i – AWD System) transmission system helps in improving the fuel efficiency of the car in an effective manner that results in a mileage of 22 kmpl that is quite impressive in the segment. The car clocks 0 to 100 kmph in a time span of 11.2 seconds and a top speed measuring 180 kmph.

Exteriors:

The SX4 is designed to look good in any setting. A flowing form which is elegant in its simplicity, sits atop a purposefully dynamic and substantial underlying structure. A low raising waistline and large, triangular windows give rise to a characteristic sporty wedge shape indicative of dynamic performance. The overall dimensions of the car measures 4150 mm X 1755 mm X 1605 mm (L X W X H) and the wheelbase measures 2500 mm that makes enough room for cabin space. The 16-inch alloy wheels with tyre size measuring P205/60 R16 further adds to the character of the car.

Interiors:

SX4 offers roomy cabin with plenty of legroom and shoulder room, even for the passengers. The seats configuration and positioning afford natural seating postures that result in comfortable long distance travel. The faux metal edged rotary ventilation controls look quite classy and work with a particularly smooth, tactile action. The music lovers are delighted with a significant music system compatible with CD tuner + MP3 player + USB and AUX.The luggage room holds the capacity of 253 litres which can be further enhanced to 530 litres with rear seats packed up in 60:40 split proportion.

Safety, braking and miscellaneous:

The SX4 body consists of a rigid frame that directs collision energy around the cabin and away from occupants. In addition to this, other crumple zones help to absorb and dissipate collision energy before it can reach to occupants. The McPherson Strut and coil spring suspension at front and torsion beam suspension system at rear makes the ride of SX4 comfortable. The braking is governed by Ventilated discs at front and Solid discs at rear further coupled with Anti- Lock Braking System (ABS) as well as Electronic Brake Force Distribution System (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). The dual front air bags are further associated with High mount stop lamp, Immobilizer that further adds to the safety of the car.

Verdict:

The combination of responsive driving dynamics and available 4x4 capability sets new standards in the performance of SX4, enabling new possibilities in the segment. Could have been priced better.
