Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Expert Review

It was with the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross that the Japanese manufacturer showed that it has the potential to turn the tables and not be a sitting duck in today’s competition. The compact SUV is praised for its out of the box aggressive styling while retaining the Mitsubishi’s traditional virtues of a rugged vehicle under the skin. Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Interior & Features

While the interior cabin of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross isn’t as visually dramatic as the outer design, the cabin still feels eye-pleasing, far from being dated or odd in its layout.

The broad theme for the multifunctional steering wheel as well as instrument console with LCD screen for MID in between makes for a very clear and good looking driver’s vision ahead. The centre console follows the latest trend of having a floating style touchscreen infotainment system, which sits atop of the centre console of the dashboard. Speaking of the centre console, it flows nicely towards downwards with silver outlining and has rectangular AC vents and buttons for climate control below it in a separate housing.

The Eclipse Cross has decent space for five passengers and has an impressive list of features on board which includes the likes of a panoramic sunroof, push-button start, heated and powered front seats, leather upholstery, heads up display and multi-view reverse camera.

Eclipse Cross Exterior

While Mitsubishi was struggling with its lineup ageing a couple of years ago, the Eclipse Cross turned the tables in the favour of Mitsubishi with its out of the box aggressive design language, which also opened the doors for future Mitsubishi models to look equally good and distinctive.

At the front, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross looks angular and sleek with the two slat chrome grille and sleek and elongated angular full LED headlamps which do get wraparound zig-zag chrome garnish extending all the way down to the front bumper. Besides this chrome accents are placed the trapezoidal light assembly consisting of fog lamps and turn indicators.

The slanting front profile of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is well complemented with the angular side profile, which consists of the rakish A and C pillars, thus giving it a very sporty ambience. The door-mounted rearview mirrors, thin roof rails and chrome accents on the lower portion of the doors do lend the Eclipse Cross a stylish stance.

It is the rear of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross which visually looks the most dramatic, with a rakish boot lid-mounted spoiler lifted above and covering the rear windscreen. This spoiler amalgamates with the sharply styled LED tail lamps on outer corners, which make the rear look very unique.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Ride & Handling

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is equipped with all the premium safety features one expects in a premium crossover, such as front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, traction control, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, lane departure warning, blind spot warning with lane departure warning, brake override system and hill start assist.

Eclipse Cross Engine & Fuel Consumption

Mitsubishi has bestowed the Eclipse Cross with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is married to a CVT gearbox as standard. The engine is capable of churning out a maximum power output of 154 PS, while the peak torque output is rated at 250 Nm.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Braking & Safety

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is equipped with all the premium safety features one expects in a premium crossover, such as front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, traction control, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning with lane departure warning, brake override system and hill start assist.

Eclipse Cross Verdict

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has the power to arrest you visually with its striking out of the box design, which by far is the most aggressive looking SUV Mitsubishi has ever come up with. The punchy performance from the turbocharged petrol engine and the stiffly sprung suspension setup complements the aggressive design of the Eclipse Cross, making it a precise driver’s choice.
