Mini Clubman

The subtle differences between the Mini Clubman and the Mini Hatch, which are visible on the outside, are present on the inside too, with the former having the same neo-retro cool layout but with a few minor changes here and there. Like the Hatch, the Mini Clubman is also offered a wide range of fabric and leatherette upholsteries to choose from, giving the owner a free hand to customize his Clubman.

The Mini Clubman gets a round-themed multi-functional steering wheel and a 5-inch TFT instrument console with rounded sides behind it. This layout of the driver’s cockpit, along with the rounded upper centre console that accommodates the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, has been shared with the Mini Hatch. However, the AC vents on the corners of the dashboard and sides of the upper centre console have a different design and come with gloss black surrounds.

The trapezoidal lower centre console has a gloss black surround and rounded edges, and houses toggle-like switches for automatic climate control, engine push start-stop button and various drive settings. The Mini Clubman is decently equipped with many must-haves, however, most of the features like a sunroof, heated front seats and head-up display, are part of the optional equipment, which come at added costs.

Given that it is based on the Mini 5-Door Hatchback, the Mini Clubman looks wider and longer than the former, giving it the stance of a station wagon. The Clubman has a solid road presence, which makes it look both rugged like a crossover and cutesy due to its neo-retro styling based on the Mini Hatch.

The front profile of the Mini Clubman looks wider and low-slung than the Mini Hatch, but it does retain its rounded headlamps comprising LED projectors and rounded daytime running LEDs. The headlamps, along with the surrounds for the wide open-mouth grille, have dark chrome surrounds, The grille here has rounded edges and comes with a honeycomb mesh pattern within it. The front bumper has slim air curtains on the far corners and rounded fog lamps beside them.

From the side, the Mini Clubman looks identical to the Mini 5-Door Hatch, with angular pillars and window panels, clean-looking door panels, rounded wheel arches and door-mounted rounded rearview mirrors. Mini offers a variety of 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels for the Clubman range, along with options for the colours of rearview mirrors and roof.

The rear profile of the Mini Clubman is its most highlighted aspect, with the back having signature split rear doors that open sideways. Another highlight that differentiates the Mini Clubman from the Mini Hatch is the design of the tail lamps, which look larger and laid horizontally, while still having rounded edges and Union Jack-inspired LED inserts.

The higher-spec versions of the Mini Clubman come with adaptive suspension, which allows the driver to adjust the firmness and feedback of the suspension setup to his liking. The versions starting from Cooper S also come with drive modes – Sport, Mid and Green for finer driving responses.

The Mini Clubman range primarily consists of two powertrains, which are offered in various states of tune. The One and Cooper have a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 102 PS and 190 Nm in the One and 136 PS and 220 Nm in the Cooper versions. The Cooper D comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which churns out 150 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. The Cooper S All4 and John Cooper Works All4 are powered by the range-topping 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 178 PS and 280 Nm in the Cooper S All4 and 306 PS and 450 Nm in the John Cooper Works All4.

The Mini Clubman range has must-have safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill hold control, hill descent control, front and rear parking sensors and reverse camera. However, one can have more advanced safety features and premium ones like a head-up display and 360-degree parking camera for added costs.

The Mini Clubman is a unique proposition for those who want the funkiness of the Mini Hatch but with more practicality and distinctiveness, thanks to its spacious cabin and boot compartment and signature split rear doors.
