Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Interior & Features
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition is a proper two-door sports car with two sports seats on the inside. Wrapped in high-quality black Nappa leather combined with DINAMICA microfibre in black and orange contrasting stitching, the cabin of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition gets plenty of carbon fibre finish all around and AMG carbon-fibre bucket seats.
Welcoming you in the driver’s cockpit of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition, the AMG performance steering wheel is fully trimmed in DINAMICA microfibre and gets adorned with the AMG logo and integrated touch control buttons on it and aluminium paddle shifters behind it. The cabin of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition feels high-tech with the presence of a 12.3-inch full-TFT instrument console and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The instrument console has three different configurable modes – classic, sporty, and supersport.
The upper centre console has a touchscreen infotainment system and quad-rounded AC vents, while the lower centre console has a carbon-fibre-finished V-shaped panel. This panel houses an array of switches and controls for transmission, steering, suspension, exhaust, rear aerofoil flap, start-stop button, and climate control functions.
AMG GT Exterior
The design of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition is a tweaked form of the first-generation AMG GT which arrived on the global pedestal in 2014. Keeping a keen focus on aerodynamics, the Mercedes-AMG GT is a low-slung car with a swooping bonnet and a curvaceous design, which also aids in its performance and dynamics at higher speeds.
At the front, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition comes adorned with a large radiator grille inspired by the AMG GT3 racing car, which looks wider than before and continues to have rounded edges and vertical dark chrome slats. The sweptback, wing-shaped headlamps are all-LED units, while the AMG GT Black Edition gets air channels on the bonnet, over the front aprons, and behind the front fenders. Additional slim air curtains are present on the corners of the front bumper, which also has a carbon fibre splitter at the bottom. This front splitter comes with two adjustable settings – street and race – for differing driving preferences over road and track.
Mercedes-AMG has played with extensive use of carbon fibre for the front bonnet, large alloy wheels, roof, rear spoiler, tailgate, and rear diffuser which covers the majority of the part of the rear bumper with quad exhaust pipes. The AMG GT Black Series comes with the standard AMG GT’s two-door hard-top coupe design, which slopes towards the rear while accommodating the rear windscreen and boot. Just above the upper edges of the rear bumper, this car gets sleek-looking all-LED tail lamps.
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Ride & Handling
For a proper supercar driving experience, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition features AMG coil-over suspension with adaptive adjustable damping, with a double wishbone concept for better toe-in stability. With this suspension setup, the AMG GT Black Edition has enhanced stability at high cornering speeds. Offering a perfect companionship to this suspension setup are AMG Ride Control and AMG Dynamic Select drive modes – Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. Equipped with track-oriented Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, the AMG GT Black Edition has AMG traction control with nine levels for even more enhanced stability while driving.
AMG GT Engine & Fuel Consumption
The 4.0-litre BiTurbo V8 petrol engine, which was introduced in the first-generation AMG GT in 2014, is in its strongest-ever avatar in the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition. Here, in this top-spec version of the supercar, this engine produces a maximum power output of 730 bhp and a peak torque output of 800 Nm. Mercedes-AMG claims a top speed of 325 kmph and 0-100 kmph timing of 3.2 seconds, making it the quickest and fastest road-legal car from the brand at present. A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is offered as standard in the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition.
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Braking & Safety
The AMG GT Black Edition comes bestowed with all the safety features one expects from a full-blown supercar. This might not be getting the ADAS features like a luxury sedan or SUV, but it has essentials like front and side airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control and a reverse camera in place.
AMG GT Verdict
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Edition is the last leg of the journey of the AMG GT as a full-blown supercar. Being a sign-off mode, Mercedes-AMG has left no stone unturned in making it a proper performance-oriented sports car, with bits like extensive carbon fibre, twin-turbo V8 and sports suspension, tyres and brakes giving it a no-compromise supercar feel.
