Lexus NX

The highlight of the driver’s cockpit of the Lexus NX is the full-TFT instrument console, which has partitions within it and comes with a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with capacitive touch buttons on it. The centre console of the cabin of the Lexus NX, which faces slightly towards the driver’s side, has a wraparound design and is finished in a combination of gloss black and red inserts. This console gets a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system sitting at the top, with controls for the climate control and AC vents placed just below it. The cabin is spacious enough for five passengers, despite a slightly sloping roofline. 

When it comes to sheer design, the Lexus NX has got the charm and modernity, that a new-age midsize SUV should possess. The high-riding NX gets a host of striking design elements and an aerodynamic appeal in its look, which are meant to catch one’s attention.

At the front, the Lexus NX welcomes one with the large spindle-themed grille, which has become the traditional fascia of all the Lexus offerings on sale. This grille gets satin chrome surrounds on the side and lower edge, and is flanked by angular wing-like all-LED headlamps on either side. The headlamps come integrated with bi-beam LED projectors and tick-shaped daytime running LEDs. The lower corners of the front bumper are adorned with vertically-laid L-shaped fog lamp housings, with LED fog lamps positioned at the bottom.

The side profile of the Lexus NX also boasts of aerodynamic appeal and striking design elements, which include door-mounted rearview mirrors, rounded wheel arches with mouldings over them, and sharp creases running through the door panels and rear fenders. The shoulder line of the windows rises sharply while moving toward the rear, which is finished in a theme of chrome. Even the roofline here has a coupe-like sloping-down theme, which adds a sense of sportiness to the design of the Lexus NX.

The rear profile of the Lexus NX also has the same sense of sportiness and striking appeal of the front fascia, with the SUV getting a set of combination LED lights, which look sleek and stretch towards the sides of the rear fenders. The boot lid here also gets an X-themed design like the front grille, and in combination with the raked rear windscreen, makes the rear profile of the Lexus NX look very dynamic.

The Lexus NX has been positioned as an urban, high-riding crossover, with a keen focus on driving dynamics. While the steering is light for city speeds, it weighs well as the speeds rise. The overall suspension system of the Lexus NX offers one of the finest balances when it comes to riding quality and handling. The NX measures 4660mm long, 1865mm wide, and 1670mm tall.

The only powertrain option available in the entire lineup of Lexus NX is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. This turbocharged engine in the Lexus NX produces a maximum power output of 274 bhp, while the peak torque output is rated at 430 Nm. 

Armed with a comprehensive suite of safety features, the range-topping Lexus NX gets front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, a pre-crash system with adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, blind spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, panoramic view monitor, head-up display and e-call emergency alert system.

There are very few SUVs in the midsize SUV segment that maintain a fine balance of aerodynamics and traditional virtues of a high-riding SUV, and the Lexus NX is one of them. With one of the finest and most luxurious cabins on offer in its segment, the Lexus NX justifies its premium positioning.
