Jaguar F-Type Expert Review
Abhishek Katariya says
First launched in 2013, the F-Type has been a standalone sports car from Jaguar, which is currently in its final term of its existence. The two-door, two-seater Jaguar F-Type Coupe was facelifted in 2019, with the current version now available in the UAE in three variants – R-Dynamic, 75 and R75. There are 27 colour options to choose from for the F-Type, which include both standard and optional paint shades.
Jaguar F-Type Interior & Features
While the exterior design of the Jaguar F-Type is good and timeless enough to still look relevant, the cabin layout doesn’t create a similar impression, with the overall design now showing its age. The dashboard comes with an all-black theme, while the F-Type offers multiple single-tone and dual-tone leather upholstery options.
With the facelift introduced in 2019, the Jaguar F-Type received a few new-age features like a full-TFT instrument console, Meridian sound system and a new 10-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment system. However, the cabin continues to get the same three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and a wraparound design for the centre console, which has traditional buttons for the audio system and dual-zone automatic climate control, along with the same transmission lever and buttons for the engine start-stop button and electronic parking brake.
The R-Dynamic variant of the Jaguar F-Type gets Ebony leather and suede cloth sport seats with an ebony interior, leather steering wheel, 6-way powered seats and ambient lighting. The 75 variant further adds more features like a limited edition aluminium instrument panel finisher, 12-way electric memory front seats, extended leather upgrade, Ebony Windsor leather/Light Oyster stitch Performance seats with Ebony/Ebony interior and interior black pack. The top-spec R75 variant adds more bits like R branded leather steering wheel and configurable cabin lighting.
F-Type Exterior
Despite being an almost decade-old design, the Jaguar F-Type still looks elegant and timeless, with a sense of sportiness which looks not overboard. With the facelifted version, which was introduced in 2019, the Jaguar F-Type has become even sleeker, especially at the front.
The front profile of the Jaguar F-Type gets mild revisions to its centre grille, which continues to have rounded edges and a honeycomb mesh pattern for the inserts. The grille gets chrome surrounds in the R-Dynamic variant and glosses black theme in the 75 and R75 variants, the latter of which is a part of the exterior black design pack.
The gloss black treatment is also visible in the air dam surrounds on the front bumper corners, window surrounds, front fender garnish, 20-inch alloy wheels and rear bumper inserts, exclusively offered in the 75 and R75 variants. The sleekness in the front profile of the Jaguar F-Type is further evident in the design of the Pixel LED headlamps, which also feature L-shaped daytime running LEDs.
When viewed from the side, the Jaguar F-Type looks extremely aerodynamic, with smooth curves over the front bonnet, front and rear fenders and window frame. The F-Type gets 20-inch alloy wheels standard across the range – gloss sparkle black in the R-Dynamic variant, gloss black in the 75 variant, and diamond-cut finish with gloss black highlights in the R75 variant. The rear profile of the Jaguar F-Type has a sharply tapering rear windscreen, which also has a curved design, along with the boot lid, which has LED tail lamps on its sides as sleek as the headlamps.
Jaguar F-Type Ride & Handling
The Jaguar F-Type comes with a rear-wheel drive layout in the R-Dynamic and 75 variants and an all-wheel drive layout in the R75 variant. Along with a stiff suspension setup for a dynamic driving experience, all the variants of the F-Type come with switchable active exhaust, though the range-topping R75 variant also gets electronic active differential with torque vectoring by braking.
F-Type Engine & Fuel Consumption
All the variants of the Jaguar F-Type get distinguished powertrain options, all of which come paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The base-spec R-Dynamic variant comes with a P300 rear-wheel drive powertrain, which is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, capable of making 300 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. This version has a top speed of 250 mph and can do the 0-100 kmph run in 5.9 seconds.
The 75 variant of the Jaguar F-Type has the P450 rear-wheel drive powertrain, which is a 5.0-litre supercharged petrol engine capable of producing 450 PS of power and 580 Nm of torque while enabling the sports car to have a top speed of 285 kmph and 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.6 seconds. The top-spec R75 variant has the same 5.0-litre supercharged petrol engine in a more powerful state of tune and with an all-wheel drive layout, which here produces 575 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque while having a top speed of 300 kmph and acceleration timing of 3.7 seconds for the 0-100 kmph sprint.
Jaguar F-Type Braking & Safety
The Jaguar F-Type comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, blind spot monitoring system, cruise control, emergency braking, lane keep assist, reverse camera, rear traffic monitor, traffic sign recognition and vehicle stability control.
F-Type Verdict
The Jaguar F-Type might be too long in the tooth amidst much more evolved and advanced sports cars, though this British sports car still makes a strong case for itself with its dramatic yet elegant styling, performance from all its engine options and sharp driving dynamics.
