Infiniti QX30 Expert Review

One of the most underrated luxury brands, Infiniti recently came up with a re-jigged lineup all across the world to stay up to date with the latest trends and segments in the automobile industry. One such category is that of the entry level compact luxury crossover, in which Infiniti has made a significant mark with the QX30. This smallest crossover/SUV from Infiniti has grabbed a lot of attention owing to its beautiful curvy styling and levels of luxury equipment it offers. Coming with only one petrol engine option under its hood, the Infiniti QX30 is available in two different variants – Luxe and Sensory, and is being offered in a choice of nine colors, namely Majestic White, Blade Silver, Graphite Shadow, Liquid Copper, Ink Blue, Pearl Black, Chestnut Bronze, Magnetic Red, and Black Obsidian.

Infiniti QX30 Interior & Features

One can be vowed with how the Infiniti QX30 looks from the outside, but it is the interior of the car which is more tempting and welcoming. The overall interior is dripped in luxury, with one getting the options of four interior colors (Graphite Cloth, Graphite Nappa Leather, Wheat Nappa Leather and Café Teak Leather) and two interior trims (Gloss Black Lacquer and Dark Wood).

The dashboard consists of a three-spoke steering wheel with silver accents and a rather simply styled instrument panel. The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system positioned along the instrument console looks rather small but is easy to use. The floating layout of the dashboard looks really cool, whereas the vertical layout of the centre console with an overdose of buttons for climate control and music system could be distracting and looks a bit old school. However, the overall fit and finish are unquestionable.

In terms of features on the inside, the Infiniti QX30 is quite loaded to the brim, with the crossover getting push-button start with keyless entry, sunroof, leather upholstery, 8-way powered and heated front passenger seats, dual zone climate control, rear AC vents, 10-speaker premium audio system from BOSE, apart from the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with inbuilt display for reverse camera and navigation.

In terms of space, the Infiniti QX30 is slightly cramped owing to its sloping roofline and limited legroom and is best suited only for four passengers.

QX30 Exterior

Out of all the entry level compact crossovers, the Infiniti QX30 easily happens to be the most drop-dead gorgeous looking in its segment. The crossover comes with a lot of swooping curves and creases, which makes it one striking looking car.

At the front, one is being welcomed with the traditional bow-tie like grille of the Infiniti family, which gets chrome surrounds around it. The eyebrow shaped LED headlamp units look sensational, while the silver skid plates and black cladding below the front bumper give it the needed rugged stance of an SUV.

From the sides, the Infiniti QX30 has a busy design which is instantly recognizable, thanks to the crisp and large curve flowing all the way from the front bonnet towards the rear door. The QX30 has a substantial ground clearance, which along with the body cladding gives it a high stance, however, the total height is not that great to call it an SUV, with the overall roofline being more of a coupe-like. However, this very sloping roofline gives the QX30 a wow factor, which only gets complemented with the swept-back shape of the C-pillar garnish.

The rear of the Infiniti QX30 looks equally as dramatic as the front of the car, with the sloping windshield shaped in the form of a boomerang. The tail lamps with LED inserts are shaped in the same way as the headlamps. The large hexagonal placing for the license plate completes the rear profile of the QX30, with the large body cladding and dual exhaust ports stealing the show as well.

Infiniti QX30 Ride & Handling

The Infiniti QX30 comes underpinned with a suspension setup of MacPherson struts with stabilizer at the front and a multi-link with torsion bar type at the rear. This is tuned on a slightly stiffer side to make it as agile for a heightened crossover as possible. The standard AWD system works flawlessly as well, and the steering too feels sharp and precise for a car of this size.

QX30 Engine & Fuel Consumption

In terms of performance, the Infiniti QX30 comes with only engine option under its hood, which is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This four-cylinder motor is capable of putting up 208 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque, which is more than enough for a crossover of this size. This punch of performance is complemented with the smooth gearshifts which its 7-speed dual clutch transmission provides.

Infiniti QX30 Braking & Safety

In terms of safety equipment, the Infiniti QX30 comes with a host of features which make us believe that it is truly a luxury car with no compromises despite its entry-level stature. The QX30 comes with front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle dynamic control with hill start assist, vehicle security system with engine immobilizer, tyre pressure monitoring system, intelligent cruise control with speed limiter, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, forward emergency braking, park assist with reverse camera, and around view monitor with moving object detection.

QX30 Verdict

The Infiniti QX30 has the ability to seal the deal just with the way it looks, with this small crossover being easily one of the most beautiful cars existing on this planet. The overall cabin looks slightly old-school in comparison to the exterior, however, it does feel plush and luxurious with impeccable fit and finish levels. Infiniti hasn’t compromised on the performance part as well, with the small 2.0-litre petrol engine putting up some very impressive numbers. The overall ride and handling, despite the QX30 being a crossover, feels more like a car with sure-footedness in its character.
