Volvo to introduce EX60 electric SUV globally in 2026

ABU DHABI: Volvo plans to launch a new mid-size electric SUV, the EX60, in 2026. This model is expected to be the first of five new electric vehicles planned for the brand. It will be built on the SPA3 platform, Volvo's advanced technology-based architecture. Supported by the new Volvo Cars Superset tech stack, this platform enables the development of a wide range of vehicles, from smaller models than the EX30 to larger ones than the EX90.

Despite delaying its EV sales goal to 2030, Volvo is still committed to the electric vehicles future. Currently, it offers five electric vehicles, including the EX90 and EX40. The company is planning to come up with five more models including the new EX60.

The new Volvo SUV will utilize the groundbreaking mega-casting technology that will be integrated into the new SPA3 platform. With the help of mega-casting technology large vehicle sections can be created as a single component, replacing the traditional way wherein multiple smaller parts need to be assembled. This innovation enhances the structural integrity of the vehicle and streamlines the manufacturing procedure. Alongside this, the SPA3’s modular design will play a vital role in reducing production costs by allowing greater efficiency and flexibility in vehicle assembly.

Volvo’s upcoming launches of the mid-size SUV (EX60) and electric sedan (ES90) will allow the brand to target various market segments. While Volvo has adjusted its electrification goals, the company remains committed to leading the premium EV segment by focusing on advanced technology and enhancing the driving experience.
