Volvo ES90 EV to make global debut early next year
ABU DHABI: Volvo is set to introduce its first electric sedan, the ES90, at an event in Stockholm, Sweden in March 2025. It will compete with the Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5 and will be part of Volvo's upcoming lineup of five advanced EV models, with a particular focus on the Chinese market.

The ES90 will be offered in dual-motor all-wheel-drive and single-motor rear-wheel-drive versions.The ES90 bears a close resemblance to the EX90 electric SUV and will serve as Volvo’s technological flagship. It is based on the same SPA2 platform that is utilized by the EX90 and its design is inspired by the current S90 sedan. Many of its elements are similar to the EX90 such as 'Thor's hammer' headlights, a closed grille, and vertical rear lights.
The ES90 has a 3,100 mm wheelbase and measures 4,999 mm in length for optimal interior space. It will be offered in dual-motor all-wheel-drive and single-motor rear-wheel-drive versions. The single-motor version will be equipped with a 111kWh battery, offering a range of up to 600 km. Its power outputs will be similar to the EX90, with standard models producing around 402 hp and performance versions up to 502 hp.
The ES90 will feature the advanced Superset tech stack of Volvo, integrating software and hardware for autonomous functions, infotainment, and more. Across all future Volvo models, this system will be available as standard, enabling over-the-air updates. It will also include many of the safety features of EX90, like a LiDAR scanner.
The ES90 will be the fifth electric model of Volvo, following the XC40/EX40, EX30, EX90 SUV and C40/EC40. The EX60, the XC60’s electric version, will follow in 2026. Further details on the ES90 sedan will be revealed ahead of its global debut.
