Volkswagen unveils the Atlas Tanoak concept at 2018 New York Auto Show
ABU DHABI: The ongoing 2018 New York Auto Show has witnessed the unveiling of the Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak concept. Going by the looks, one would imagine that the manufacturer has simply exchanged the rear seat of the Volkswagen Atlas with a small truck bed. However, the concept pickup comes with a more rugged look as compared to the regular Atlas. It also has a comparatively longer wheelbase.
Talking about its interiors, the Tanoak concept gets an improvised cabin. New selector knobs, new shifter along with an LED light running through the center of its dashboard to the side doors are some of the exquisite features you will find inside the Tanoak.
The prominent bumper of the Tanoak concept gets an “Atlas” embossing. The truck bed measures 64 inches in length and 57 inches in width. With a low positioned tailgate, Volkswagen has claimed that it can even transport dirt bikes and ATVs.
Under the hood, the Tanoak concept gets a 3.6-litre V6 engine which is capable of delivering a maximum power of 276 PS along with a peak torque of 361 Nm. The manufacturers have also claimed that the pickup can accelerate from 0-97 kmph in just about 8.5 seconds. The concept vehicle gets an 8-speed automatic transmission. It comes with a number of on-road and off-road driving modes.
Unfortunately, the German automaker has also stated that it is in no hurry to get the Atlas Tanoak in production but it has certainly managed to get people talking about it. If and when it launches in the UAE, it is sure to get a good response, and why not, it has got everything - a rugged appearance, a powerful engine and can prove to be a utility vehicle as well.
