Up close and personal with the beautiful Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro
ABU DHABI: It was only last year, at the Geneva Motor Show, when Aston Martin gave us their most extreme track focused hypercar ever. This was, of course, the Valkyrie AMR Pro. Now, at the 40th Bangkok International Motor Show, Aston Martin has debuted this gorgeous car for South East Asia. So how is the AMR Pro different from the road legal Valkyrie?
Well, for starters, the AMR Pro wears elements that help create more downforce. These include a centre fin on the rear cowl, a gigantic rear wing, and a large front splitter. With these added aero bits, the AMR Pro is more stable at high speeds. In an effort to gain more speed, the AMR Pro is extremely light. It tips the scale at just 1000 kg. This weight is thanks to the full carbon composite body, and the interior has also ditched any unnecessary equipment like the climate control and infotainment system. You also get a polycarbonate windscreen, carbon fibre suspension wishbones, and moulded race seats. So, in essence, the AMR Pro is simply a body over an engine with no frills and fancy bits.
Powering this pocket rocket is a 6.5-litre V12 hybrid engine. It produces a mouth-watering 1100 PS (100 PS more than the regular Valkyrie). This extra power is achieved thanks to the new ECU calibration and removal of emission control systems, which are not required since this is a track car. Apart from this, the braking system has also been overhauled. You get full carbon-carbon racing brakes, and the Rimac sourced energy recovery system has also been reprogrammed. Top speed is rated at 362 kmph. With a weight of 1000kg and 1100 PS of power, the AMR Pro surpasses the 1:1 power-to-weight ratio required for a hypercar.
As is the case with most of these ‘extreme’ cars, the Valkyrie AMR Pro is a limited edition model. Aston Martin will only be producing 25 units, and they have all found new owners. Since this is a track-focused machine, Aston is providing a full driving training program along with exclusive track events.
