Toyota Hilux gets some sporty makeover from Gazoo Racing

ABU DHABI: The Toyota Hilux is one of the most ‘sporty’ and rugged models in the segment. However, the Toyota Motor Corporation has recently launched a sportier variant of Hilux, the GR Sport. The GR stands for Gazoo Racing that has also worked with the upcoming Supra and the other Toyota models which are performance oriented.

The said vehicle has been launched in Brazil at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show. It is for the first time that the Gazoo Racing’s name has collaborated with a pick-up truck. Earlier to this, it has worked its magic on cars like the 5th generation Supra, Mark X, 86, and the Yaris. However, the GR Sport modification kit has been provided for the other MPV models as well as the Prius in Japan.

No modification has been done in the engine section of the Hilux. However, some new springs have been added by the Gazoo Racing and that becomes stiffer. Also, the monotube shocks are provided and the damping is improved.

The facelifted Hilux gets a black-red-white colour scheme. Coming to the front fascia, a brand new honeycomb grille is featured that comes fitted with the Toyota logo at the centre. Also, a black hood and roof, matte black fender extensions, and GR badge are present on the exterior. The vehicle ride on 17-inch wheels which are wrapped in all-terrain tyres.

The Hilux GR Sport still derives the power from a 2.8-litre 1GD turbodiesel engine which can offer a maximum power of 177 PS along with a peak torque of 450 Nm. The transmission duties are been done by a 6-speed automatic gearbox that sends down the power to all the four wheels.
