The 2020 Mitsubishi ASX features a bold new look
ABU DHABI: The current model of the ASX, launched in 2016, was a minor redesign and did not bring much to the table. Mitsubishi is planning to change this with the 2020 ASX with a much needed new design. This should help the Mitsubishi ASX to compete better in the cut-throat compact SUV space.
This new design will be based on Dynamic Shield philosophy, which Mitsubishi uses for its trucks and SUVs. The company calls it the ‘Impact and Impulse’ design language and has modified the ASX using the same. The baby Outlander aims to look like its big brother with a bold grille. It is supposed to express strength and toughness, according to Mitsubishi.
As with other Mitsubishi models like the Montero Sport and Strada, the lights flanking the chrome grille are headlamps and the assemblies low down on the bumper are for fog lights and indicators. Also adding to the tough characteristic are the faux skid plates. The rear taillights are all new, but the body and architecture will remain the same as its predecessor. On the inside, no significant changes are made. Europe will get the new Smartphone-link Display Audio System (SDA).
Powering the ASX will be a 2.0-litre MIVEC unit paired with an INVECS-III CVT gearbox. In Europe, there will be front/all-wheel drive options available. The new ASX will be unwrapped next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
