Tesla introduces fully self-driving Cybercab

KUALA LUMPUR: Tesla CEO Elon Musk took the wrap off a new electric robo-taxi that has been exclusively designed for self-driving. This purpose-built vehicle is fully autonomous and lacks pedals and a steering wheel. It has a futuristic design featuring a compact cabin for two passengers and upward-opening doors. Notably, it can be charged wirelessly without the need for a plug.

According to Musk autonomous cars could be more safer than human-driven ones, costing as low as 20 cents per mile in comparison to $1 for city buses. Tesla is planning to launch next year fully autonomous driving in California and Texas, with the Cybercab’s production starting before 2027.

The Cybercab boasts a unique single full-width LED light bar that will remind you of the Cybertruck. It shares design elements with other Tesla models like the Model 3 and Model Y. What sets it apart are the unique butterfly doors. At the rear, the utility has been enhanced by a spacious boot, but similar to the Cybertruck, it does not have a rear window. Full-wheel covers improve the range, though details about the specifications and powertrain remain undisclosed. The innovative design of the Cybercab aligns with Tesla's signature style.

As the Robotaxi’s launch date approaches, it will be exciting to know about the hardware that is being utilized by Tesla. This launch could revolutionize mobility, but the presentations of Elon often mix reality with hype. Still, if this turns into a reality, our roads will dramatically change.
