Suzuki e Vitara debuts as the brand’s first electric vehicle

ABU DHABI: Suzuki has come up with its first electric vehicle, the e Vitara, which will compete with models such as the MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The Suzuki e Vitara will be a global offering and will be sold in markets such as India, Japan, and Europe.

The e Vitara has a 2.7-meter wheelbase and measures 4.23 meters in length, aligning it with rivals in its category. It will be offered with options for two battery packs: a 61kWh pack offering both 4WD and FWD configurations and a 49kWh pack with FWD.

The 49kWh battery pack has been mated with a motor that generates around 142bhp and 189 Nm of torque. The 61kWh battery pack is offered in two configurations: a 2WD version with 171bhp and 189Nm of torque, and a 4WD version that delivers 64bhp from the rear motor and 181bhp from the front motor. The 4WD setup generates around 300 Nm of torque and in the last 20 years is the most powerful Suzuki motor.

The e Vitara’s interior marks a significant enhancement, featuring a horizontally stacked, sleek dashboard and floating dual-screen infotainment system. Notable details include brushed silver AC vents, a twin-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a part fabric, part leatherette upholstery, and a rotary drive mode selector. It also offers physical AC controls and big door pockets. The main features include drive modes (including ‘Trail’ for AWD), an electronic parking brake with auto hold, hill descent control, Apple CarPlay, and a wireless phone charger.

Production is expected to start in March next year at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant. The e Vitara will be available in global markets by June 2025.
