Skoda’s Vision X concept will take shape as a Creta rival

ABU DHABI: Most of the manufacturers have now realised the potential of the compact SUV segment and started placing their bets to grab a strong position. The next to join the league is Skoda, which has recently revealed its Vision X concept at the Geneva Motor Show 2018. The compact SUV will be based on the company’s new MQB A0 platform to rival one of the hot sellers in the segment, the Hyundai Creta. It will be positioned below Skoda Koraq as the third SUV in the company’s lineup.

As analyzed from the past concepts, the production models of Skoda do not feature much difference. The same can be expected from the SUV based on the Vision X concept. The images clearly reflect the sharp lines and muscular build of the SUV that will surely give a hard time to the rest of the competitors. Whereas, the cabin reflects towards the future iteration of the rest of the upcoming lineup of the company. The dashboard is positioned low with a freestanding screen in the middle.

Under the hood, there will be a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a maximum power output of 130 PS and peak torque of 200 Nm. It will be further backed by an electric motor coupled to the rear axle. For a smooth ignition, there is also a belt-driven starter generator that is already a part of a number of Suzuki’s models. The compact SUV will be also offered with diesel engine options but, there is no information about their specs yet.

According to Skoda, electro-mobility will play an important role in its growth strategy in future. The company will introduce its first plug-in hybrid Superb in 2019 followed by other models. For now, its launch in the local market is uncertain but, if launched, the compact SUV holds strong traits to become a segment leader.

Let’s see how the Vision X shapes in the production model over the time.
