Side-opening tailgate now available on the 2019 Ram 1500

ABU DHABI: Ram is trying to redefine how we operate tailgates on pickups. The new 2019 Ram 1500 has something the company calls a ‘Multifunction Tailgate’. Apart from opening the regular drop-down way, it can also be opened sideways in a 60:40 split configuration.
This is made possible by the addition of side hinges that allows the tailgate to open like a door. Theoretically, this should make loading/unloading of heavy items easier from the bed.

Each door can open up to 88 degrees and has a retractable centre mounted step board, aiding access into the bed. The various opening methods include open flat, left/right, and both doors.

Leaving the tailgate aside, the 2019 Ram 1500 also gets a completely sprayed bed liner featuring the intuitive RamBox cargo management system. This makes cargo management easier with waterproof storage bins running on bed rails. Powering your tools is now easier than ever with the inclusion of a 115 V, 400 W power outlet.

Reid Bigland, Head of Ram, states that cargo management has been taken to next level in the new Ram 1500. He goes on to say that users will find the 'Multifunction Tailgate' useful and intuitive to use along with the RamBox. The tailgate step will also make getting in and out of the truck easier.

Ram UAE currently offers the 1500 pickup in four variants - Laramie, Bighorn, Rebel, and Limited. We hope the 'Multifunction Tailgate' is introduced here soon.
