Rumors suggest the arrival of four-cylinder Toyota Supra
ABU DHABI: It has been a long time since Toyota has been releasing the teasers of the Supra. At this moment, people have many questions about the engine mechanism as they might be thinking whether it will bear a similar one to that of the Nissan GT-R or have the tame grand tourer. However, thanks to a credible source as it released the key specs of the vehicle, thereby, throwing a lot of light on the engine.
However, after the news went viral on the internet, the piece was taken down and all that was left were some screenshots. But then again, the screenshots broke out on the web soon.
The base variant is 20i, while the following higher trims are the 30i and the 40i. Those who follow BMW’s variant naming can be familiar with these variant trends and can derive some bit of information. However, it is not guaranteed whether Toyota follows the same nomenclature or not.
Speaking of the engine, the Supra comes with three trims. The 20i makes do with a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre motor that can pump out a maximum of 184 PS power along with a peak torque of 290 Nm. It is followed by the 30i engine unit that, according to the BMW's figures, can make up to 256 PS of power along with a peak torque of 400 Nm. The last range-topping trim is the 40i which can belt out a maximum of 390 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. And from the source, we have also come to know that there is no manual transmission option available.
However, you have to remember the fact that the figures that are present above are based fully on the existing BMW engines. There is a chance that the manufacturer may change the figure to offer more power. Hence, don’t be surprised if the new Supra can make more than 400 PS of power. However, if you compare the vehicles which were released during 90’s, you will get to know that the power of the Supra is not extremely overwhelming.
If we suppose, the top-end variant of the new Supra produces more than 400 PS of power, it will still lag behind its competitors as the Nissan GT-R can make up to 570 PS of power while the Honda NSX betters the figure by churning out a humongous 581 PS figure.
