Refreshed 2020 Mitsubishi ASX unveiled

ABU DHABI: One of the more popular models from Mitsubishi, the ASX, has been refreshed and unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. This compact crossover goes by RVR/Outlander Sport in other markets. The refreshed ASX is the 3rd generation model and has been around since 2010. In its new form, it has undergone significant styling changes to keep it competitive in the compact SUV landscape.

Design wise the refreshed ASX adopts Mitsubishi’s latest Dynamic Shield front design language. This means the grille has a prominent design with chrome inserts flanked by LED headlights and striking LED fog lamp cluster. Moving to the rear, you get new LED tail lamps and a slightly revised bumper while faux skid plates add to the sense of ruggedness. New colors (Red Diamond, Sunshine Orange, Oak Brown) are also on offer.

Stepping inside the cabin, the touchscreen unit increases in size from 7 to 8-inches. Some of the higher spec models also get TomTom navigation with real-time traffic information. In the near future, Mitsubishi will release an app to display the vehicle’s odometer, speedometer, and warning lamp among other details.

Powering the ASX will be a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The power figures are not known yet, but if it is the same as the Outlander, then it could produce 148 bhp and 195 Nm of torque. Power is sent to either front or all wheels via a CVT gearbox. The box also has a sports mode which mimics six physical gears, making for a sporty drive. We should see the facelifted ASX in the region sometime later in the year and prices will be revealed at a later date. The bold new design should help the ASX have a wider appeal in the market and help it stay ahead of the pack.
