Production of Toyota Hilux EV to begin in Thailand in 2025

ABU DHABI: Toyota Hilux, known for its aggressive design and capabilities, is all set to enter the electric segment by 2025, offering a battery-powered version to customers. Toyota Thailand's head, Noriaki Yamashita confirmed the news, stating that electric Hilux’s production will start by the end of next year. This announcement was made after Isuzu revealed its intent to electrify the D-Max pickup.

In terms of design, it resembles its ICE counterpart, maintaining its generous cargo space and robust stance. The final production model will be revealed with minor tweaks.

The electric Hilux is expected to hit the global market, including Europe. It will compete against models like the upcoming Isuzu D-Max electric pickup and Ford F-150 Lightning. With a 30% market share in the pickup segment of Europe, the electric Hilux holds immense importance for Toyota.

However, Toyota has not given any confirmation about the electric Hilux’s launch in the UAE. However, since the adoption of electric vehicles is increasing in the UAE we expect that Toyota will come up with an electric Hilux soon.

The testing of the Hilux EV will be done in Pattaya, where dozens of electric Hilux vehicles will be tested rigorously, including their use as public vehicles, to identify areas for improvement and evaluate their capabilities.

Instead of solely focusing on electrification, Toyota is exploring different technologies such as hydrogen, electric, hybrid, and alternative fuels for cars. Toyota believes in a diverse approach and for automotive use it will continue investing in hydrogen.
