Potential Colorado variant in pipeline, Chevy files two ‘Bison’ tagged trademarks
ABU DHABI: Reports of Chevy filing two trademarks at the U.S Patent and Trademark Office is making rounds all over the internet. Digging out more information on the subject, we found out that Chevrolet has filed trademarks under the name ‘ZR2 Bison’ and ‘Colorado Bison’. The former is known to use Bison wordmark accompanied by the original ZR2 logo.
Further investigation revealed that both the trademarks as mentioned above specified their intent on the submitted forms as ‘motor land vehicles, namely trucks’. However, we are in doubt as to what product would tag along with the new nameplate.
Before making any guesses let us first know the current offering under the Chevrolet Colorado badge. The Colorado ZR2 is one of the most potent vehicles you can get your hands on. Giving this big machine all the desired power is a 2.8-litre turbo engine that produces a maximum power of 187 PS along with a peak torque of 200 Nm. In addition, supporting its off-roading skills are present big massive wheels and a lifted suspension system. With the new patent filing, it looks like Chevy is under plans to hike the already high-performance standards.
It seems like Chevrolet is preparing a strong competitor for the recently announced Ford Ranger Raptor.
Time for guessing what could lie under the new nameplate -
Guess 1 - Chevy is working on a Colorado ZR2 truck, a work truck to be specific. And we think it would be similar to the October spotted prototype. Along with a utility bed, the said prototype featured Chevy ZR2 similar off-roading design clues like - skid plate, large wheels, Multimatic shocks and more. Though the company is using the talked about prototype for testing Colorado capabilities on difficult terrains like Rubicon, but it’s numb about its future prospects.
Guess 2 - The least we can think of is a new, improved, and ever better performing Chevrolet ZR2. In addition to the prior mentioned 187 PS churning 2.8-litre diesel mill, there is also a V6 powered petrol variant delivering 309 PS and 378 Nm. Though its hard to imagine a more powerful Colorado, it's sure not unattainable.
Whatever may be the output, we are both excited and eager to see what Chevy next has in stock for the auto world. Though nothing is made official yet, we are expecting to see the final output before the year-end.
