Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trackday and Competition variants released
ABU DHABI: Porsche has taken the covers off the new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport that is special for a couple of reasons. First, because it is available in two versions, Trackday and Competition. Of which the former model is for ambitious racing drivers while the latter one is aimed at national and international motor racing.
Secondly, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is made of all natural composite materials. The flamboyant rear wing and doors are made of organic fibre mixture that has been extracted from hemp fibres or flax, the widely used agricultural by-products.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the first race-ready production car to be built by natural fibre composite materials. Commenting on the quality, stiffness and weight of the car, Porsche mentioned that the composite mix holds familiar properties like the carbon fibre used on the majority of modern-day racing cars.
Fritz Enzinger, the head of the motorsport at Porsche said, “The new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport possesses significantly more racing genes than its successful predecessor. The power of the engine has increased considerably. At the same time, we were able to increase the downforce and the cockpit is now even better suited to drivers’ needs. I’m confident that we can build on the excellent sales figures of the predecessor, of which we have delivered 421 cars.”
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport draws power from a flat-six 3.8-litre engine that pumps out a max power of 430.8 PS. This mill is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, a rear-wheel-drive system, and a rear axle differential. The car weighs 1,320 kg and comes with a safety cage, six-point harness, and racing bucket seats.
For braking, it gets steel disc brakes all around, each measuring 380 mm and an advanced racing brake system. As far as suspension is concerned, it gets the spring-strut front suspension sourced from the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
Talking about the variants, the Competition is race-focused and comes with a 115-litre fuel tank for long racing competitions, three-stage adjustable shock absorbers, an integrated air jack system, and a brake balance system. Additionally, it gets an auto fire extinguishing system and a quick-release steering setup, taken from the 911 GT3 R.
On the other hand, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Trackday variant is meant for amateur racing enthusiasts who participate in club and private track events. The variant comes equipped with a fixed shock absorber unit, a handheld fire extinguisher, a roof rescue hatch, an 80-litre safety fuel tank, and air conditioning system. Additionally, there are features like ABS, ESC, and traction control system that can be deactivated at will.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trackday variant is priced at 134,000 euros (AED 5,61,336.78) and the Competition variant at 157,000 euros (AED 6,57,685.63) (both prices are exclusive of taxes). The company has started to take orders, with worldwide shipping to begin in February.
