Polestar 1 is now available to order
ABU DHABI: Polestar 1 is the first car from Volvo’s luxury electric car subsidiary. The car is now available for pre-order in many countries. As Volvo’s Polestar division is now manufacturing its own premium brand of sporty and electrified mobiles, the Polestar 1 is bound to be a stunner.
The Polestar 1 is a high-performance plug-in electric hybrid car. It comes with a two-door, four-seater coupe. This car will also feature a powerful set of engines and electric motors. As per the Volvo SPA platform that underpins the XC60, V60, S90, V90, and XC90, the Polestar 1 is going to be equipped with either a turbocharged or supercharged 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine and a pair of rear-mounted electric motors. These powerful engines and motors can together produce a 600 hp of maximum power and 1,000 Nm of torque. This torque produced will be immensely greater than the one which Volvo S90T8 plug-in hybrid sedan produces. The Polestar 1’s electric range is rated to be just a little below 100 miles.
The car can be preconfigured and preordered across 18 countries currently. The countries in which the pre-ordering is now available includes United Kingdom, China, United States, Sweden, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Spain, France, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada.
To pre-order a Polestar 1, a deposit of €2,500 (AED 11, 281) is required. This amount serves as a placeholder in a queue and is fully-refundable. Polestar will be making only 500 units of its hybrid sports sedan. The cost of the car has not been officially announced but it is expected to cost around £120,000 (AED 5,41,496).
Deliveries of Polstar 1 are set to begin in mid-2019. Meanwhile, Polestar is also working on a Tesla Model 3 rival - The Polestar 2. The Polestar 2’s production is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2020. This will be the company's first electric vehicle. The prices of the Polestar 2 are expected to be around £35,000 (AED 1,57,936).
Mr. Thomas Ingenlath, the Chief Executive Officer of Polestar said: “We are not saying it’s a Tesla killer, we are here to vividly compete with them in the market. We will launch Polestar 2 in the second half of 2019 and production will begin around the start of 2020”.
