New Porsche 718 Spyder RS represents the evolution of the Boxster formula

ABU DHABI: In celebration of the 30 years of the Boxster concept car's presentation, Porsche has unveiled the 718 Spyder RS. It is the most aggressive Boxster model with a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine that has been sourced from the 911 GT3.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What kind of engine does the 718 Spyder RS have?

The 718 Spyder RS comes with a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine that has been sourced from the 911 GT3.
  • When will the 718 Spyder RS arrive at dealerships?

The 718 Spyder RS will arrive at dealerships in the spring of 2024.
  • This extreme Spyder borrows its design cues from the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It is an open-air equivalent of the Cayman GT4 RS.

There are additional side blades on the bumper for extra downforce. It also exudes an excellent aerodynamic balance front-to-back. The cabin has a blend of grippy Race-Tex and leather. The dashboard and seats are wrapped in leather, and the seat inserts and wheel come in grippy Race-Tex material. You can choose contrasting stitching such as grey or red—and a bright yellow marker on the wheel.

Like the GT4 RS, the 718 Spyder RS is available only with seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission. It boosts the flat-six's rev limit to a stratospheric 9,000 rpm from 8,000 rpm, along with a 493 hp power increase. The chassis uses various components from the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It comes with sports calibration and Porsche Active Suspension Management.

It comes with a lightweight, manually-operated soft top comprising two parts: a weather protector and a sun shield. Both are removable. You can use the lightweight single-layer Spyder soft-top with the sun shield, shading the passenger and driver. The passenger compartment remains open behind the passengers and to the side.

The 718 Spyder RS will arrive at dealerships in the spring of 2024. The company has not yet revealed whether the Porsche 718 Spyder RS will be available in the UAE.
