New Honda electric sedan in the works; launch expected in 2030

Expected to launch in 2030, the upcoming electric sedan underpins 'Thin, Light, and Wise' design philosophy, integrating a slim battery pack, compact e-Axle, and lightweight body frames. Leveraging the expertise of Formula 1, Honda aims for around 100 kilograms of weight reduction in its next-generation EVs in comparison to current models.
Honda is making a substantial investment in EVs, allocating around $65 billion (238 billion AED) by 2030 to enhance its global competitiveness. Seven born-EV models will be a part of the 0 Series lineup. The first three models will be launched in 2026, signifying the readiness of Honda to adapt to the evolving automotive landscape.
The Honda 0 Series lineup boasts the utilization of fewer parts, streamlined construction, and the incorporation of lightweight aluminium chassis structures. The chassis is inspired by the Tesla Model Y and to lower production costs and weight it will adopt die-casting techniques.
To reduce expenses Honda is planning to manufacture batteries in-house. It will build a joint venture battery factory in the US by partnering with Korea’s LG. The factory will have a 40GWh annual capacity. Honda aims to explore raw material sourcing and battery recycling to reduce battery costs by 2030 by 20%.
