Mitsuoka turns Mazda Miata into Chevy Corvette Stingray

ABU DHABI: Mitsuoka is one of the Japanese coachbuilders that is known to modify cars to make them look like the envious retro cars from the past. However, the company did look to be in a hibernation mode for quite a long time after the last known remake.

This tuner is now back with another interesting remake on the cards. The latest venture of the car is the Mitsuoka Rock Star, which is Mazda Miata turned into what looks similar to the one we know as the Corvette Sting Ray from Chevy. However, this is not the first instance the company tweaked a Miata as the previous example was the Himiko, which wore a classic roadster design from Europe.

As far as the latest Mitsuoka Rock Star is concerned, the car does look extremely pleasing with a well-proportioned body and great fit and finishing. The re-worked Miata has very exaggerated front fenders, thanks to the long bonnet approach. The exterior of the car is a lot similar to the standard Mazda Miata.

Under the hood, it continues to be powered by the same 1.5-litre engine that is naturally-aspirated. This means the power production remains the same at 129 horsepower along with 150 Nm of torque. Hence, though it looks similar to the Corvette, it isn’t that sporty within.

As for the transmission, there is a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox offered. On top of that, the manual model comes with a limited-slip differential on offer. The colour options for the body are numerous, which also happens to include custom body and windshield surround colours. The retro design is completed with the white-lettered tyres from BF Goodrich.

Mitsuoka will only make 50 units of the Rock Star available for sale. However, the price of the car is a lot more than what the standard Miata comes for. In the Middle East, the price for the base model would be approximately AED 152,940, which is almost double the regular Mazda model.
