Mini has dropped the ‘Hatch’ name with the new generation, simply naming the three-door model ‘Cooper.’ The electric hot variant has now been named the Mini John Cooper Works Electric, while the Mini John Cooper Works Aceman is Aceman's performance variant. Though the naming can be a bit confusing, the quirky approach of Mini remains intact.
Both the JCW Aceman and JCW Electric come with the same all-electric powertrain, with an electric motor that delivers to the front wheels around 254 bhp and 251 lb-ft of torque. The hatchback takes 5.9 seconds to accelerate from 0-62 mph, while 6.4 seconds is taken by the Aceman.
Both models can achieve 124 mph of top speed when activating the ‘Boost’ mode. They are equipped with a 54.2 kWh battery that offers 243 miles for the Aceman and a 251-mile range for the JCW Electric. Charging is rapid, supporting 95 kW rapid charging under 30 minutes for a 10-80% charge. While not a great choice for long-distance excursions, they are ideal for city driving.
The electrified JCWs maintain the signature ‘go-kart handling’ of the brand with suspension setups that are performance-optimized. The Aceman boasts 19-inch wheels while JCW Electric comes with 18-inch wheels. Both are equipped with chunky rear wings and aggressive body kits. A red roof and standard red brake calipers highlight their sporty appeal and reinforce both models' performance pedigree.
The electric JCW models impress with a blend of modern technology and classic sporty design, with a red and black color scheme throughout the cabin. Support is provided during spirited driving by the sporty front seats, while an OLED touchscreen integrates vehicle settings and infotainment seamlessly.
The unveiling of all-electric Mini John Cooper Works models was done at the Paris Motor Show, generating excitement among eco-conscious drivers and automotive enthusiasts. With their performance features and stylish design, these models are expected to revolutionize the electric vehicle market. Deliveries are expected to start in April 2025, marking a new chapter’s beginning for Mini as it embraces electrification.
