Mercedes-Benz unveils AMG A35 in sedan form
ABU DHABI: It was only last year when Mercedes introduced us to the racy AMG A35 hatchback at the Paris Motor Show. And now, the German automaker has revealed the sedan version of the A35 hatchback. In essence, the A35 sedan is almost identical to the hatchback in many ways, with the obvious differentiator being the boot in the sedan version.
Let’s start with the performance aspect of the AMG A35 sedan. The mechanicals are the same as the A35 hatchback. This means you get a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol motor which puts out a noteworthy 302 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. Power is handled via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and it can also be shifted manually via the paddles on the steering wheel. As standard, you get the Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive-system, which primarily sends power to the front wheels. Based on certain conditions, the system can also send up to 50% of the power to the rear wheels thereby providing a 50/50 split in power distribution. 0-100 kmph takes 4.8 seconds with a 250 kmph top speed limit. In order to utilize all this power for various situations, Mercedes has given the A35 sedan with five driving modes. These are Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, and Slippery. Essentially, the modes alter various vehicle parameters including the engine and transmission.
Design wise the A35 sedan is similar to its hatchback brother, at the rear the sedan’s roof slopes downward to a short deck adorned with a subtle spoiler. Mercedes has not divulged the details of the boot, but it would definitely be more accommodating than the hatchback. Differentiating the AMG A35 from regular A-Class sedans are a special set of 18-inch wheels, front splitter with chrome trim, dual tailpipes, AMG line side skirts, and a rear diffuser. Additionally, you can also opt for the AMG Night package and AMG Aerodynamics Package. The interiors of the AMG A35 sedan are identical to its hatchback sibling. You get things like the flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, a fully digital cockpit, and the latest MBUX infotainment system.
As of now, there is no information as to when the A35 sedan will land in our shores. More details should be available when it premieres at the New York Auto Show.
