Mercedes-Benz to make EQA Concept electric car in France
ABU DHABI: Mercedes-Benz is planning to expand its capacities for electric cars in Europe. The German automaker announced its plan to produce the EQA Compact Electric Car at the Hambach plant in France. The said announcement was made by the head of Mercedes-Benz, Dieter Zetsche after his meeting with the French President, Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris.
The head of Mercedes-Benz cars, Dieter Zetsche, stated that "20 years ago we started an exemplary German-Franco project with the production of the smart in Hambach. Now we take the next step, and for the first time in our more than 100-year old history, we bring the production of Mercedes-Benz to France. With the compact EQ model from Hambach, we continue our electric initiative."
The company is also expected to invest 500 million euros in the Hambach plant and the product. This investment will go in the construction of new facilities and for the product as well. The assembly facilities and the site’s infrastructure are also going to get a revamp with this plant.
Dr Annette Winkler, Head of SMART stated that "The Hambach site in France features many years of experience in building fully electric cars. We want to take advantage of the enormous expertise and prepare the plant for the production of an electric Mercedes-Benz. We are investing a total of around 500 million euros in the Hambach plant and the product."
France is soon going to see more of Mercedes-Benz EQA Concept Electric cars in the near future. The company is planning to invest 500 million euros in its Hambach plant and product. The German company is expected to launch more than ten electric cars by 2022 throughout all the segments- from smart to large SUVs. From 2020, the brand SMART is going to offer only electric vehicles. Doing so will make it the first automotive brand in the world to completely shift from combustion engines to electric drives.
