Mercedes-Benz set to unveil GLC facelift, new CLA Shooting Brake and Concept EQV at Geneva

ABU DHABI: All car manufacturers are busy making preparations for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show and we have a fairly good idea of what each will display. Today, we get to know what Mercedes will showcase.
First up is the CLA Shooting Brake. This will be an optional body style to the C118 CLA Coupe launched in January. The design of both models will be similar from the front while the back of the Shooting Brake model will have an estate look, enabling more boot space. Test cars have been spotted with a sloping roofline which ensures the car looks stylish and yet remain practical. The specs sheet of the CLA Shooting Brake should be very similar to its coupe sibling, which includes the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system.
The 2nd car on the list is the facelifted GLC, which will see major upgrades based on earlier spy shots. Exterior changes will include redesigned bumpers and headlights while the interiors will have a larger display for the infotainment system and a touchpad, similar to the A-Class. The steering wheel also gets the new Touch Control interface. Mercedes-Benz states the GLC will gain a “new control concept including MBUX and gesture control” with its facelift. A new range of engines are also likely to be offered, featuring a mild hybrid 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit. This engine will have a 48 V electric system and a belt-driven starter-generator. Power figures stand at 196 PS in the GLC 250 4-matic EQ Boost and 258 PS in the GLC 300 4-matic EQ Boost. On the safety front, diver assistance systems will also be available in the GLC facelift.
On the electric side of things, Mercedes will showcase the EQ concept which it describes as “the world’s first SUV in the premium segment with purely battery-electric drive.” The car to be shown will be almost production ready and Mercedes says that it “combines locally emission-free mobility with impressive performance, maximum functionality and aesthetic design.”
Another concept which falls under the Smart brand is the Forease+ which aims to make urban living easier by providing comprehensive mobility services.
