Mercedes-Benz reveals GLC Coupe facelift
KUALA LUMPUR: A few weeks ago Mercedes unveiled the facelifted GLC, it only seems logical that they update the coupe sibling and bring it at par. The facelifted coupe gets a revised design treatment and a host of new technologies.
Compared to the regular GLC, the coupe version gets a more angular grille and on the AMG line, you get chrome treatment on the pins within the unit. Along with this, the chrome also extends to the front guard, rear bumper garnish, and the side steps. Lighting duties are carried out by High Performance LED units, which have LED strips that run along the edge of the main lights. These act as DRLs and indicators. Further down on the bumper you get visibly larger air intakes which showcases a more pronounced ‘A-Wing’ design. Moving over to the rear, the exaggerated diffuser like element and redesigned exhaust outlets give the coupe a more menacing look. The rear taillights resemble the regular GLC and are somewhat ring-shaped in nature.
Not much has changed on the inside of the facelifted GLC Coupe, the major change being the addition of the 10.25-inch infotainment screen on the dashboard. Some models also get a smaller 7-inch screen with both units using the latest MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system. Along with this, there is also a new 12.3-inch digital driver display, similar to the one on the standard GLC.
Powering the facelifted GLC Coupe at launch will be a range of petrol and diesel engines. With the petrol variants, you get a 48-volt mild hybrid system, providing 14 PS and 150 Nm boost under acceleration. The system also features energy recovery and coasting. Model-wise you can opt for the GLC 200 4matic (with 197 PS and 320 Nm) or the GLC 300 4matic (with 258 PS and 370 Nm). Both these petrol variants use a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder unit. If an oil burner is something you prefer, then you can pick from the GLC 200d (with 163 PS and 360 Nm), GLC 220d (with 194 PS and 400 Nm) or the GLC 300d (with 245 PS and 500 Nm). All diesel models also feature 4matic as standard.
The 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox handles transmission duties. Standard fitment includes sports suspension with adaptive damping with an option of an infinitely-adjustable Dynamic Body Control damping system.
The new facelifted Coupe also comes with an array of driver assistance systems. These include things like Active Steer Assist with Active Emergency Stop Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Evasive Steering Assist and Active Distance Assist Distronic to name a few.
With all these new additions, the facelifted GLC Coupe offers a compelling alternative to the regular GLC SUV. The pricing and availability for the region are still not known yet. Competition for the GLC Coupe is seen in the form of the BMW X4.
