Mercedes-Benz power unit to propel Williams Racing cars till 2030

ABU DHABI: Williams Racing, the British Formula One team, and the automotive manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz announced an extension of their contract. This indicates that Williams Racing will continue to be a Mercedes-Benz power unit customer until 2030.

    Williams Racing is the second customer team that has been confirmed for the 2026 power unit regulations. Since mid-2022, Mercedes-Benz and Williams, have been working together to develop a new power unit at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth. Through this partnership, they aim to leverage a diverse portfolio of customer teams facilitating the new engines' on-track testing by 2026.

    Mercedes-Benz has supplied engines to various race teams since 1994. In 2010, it started working as a full works team. Mercedes-AMG’s partnership has led to 114 victories, including 8 consecutive World Constructors' Championships and two for customer teams. 

    Williams Racing has been the customer team of Mercedes-Benz since the start of the turbo hybrid era. During this period it has achieved 16 podium finishes. In the World Constructors' Championship that was held in 2014 and 2015, the team secured third place. The team made a comeback in 2023, finishing seventh overall. 

    The principal of Williams Racing Team, James Vowles expressed his excitement over the extension of their partnership with Mercedes-Benz. The partnership is a positive step toward future objectives.
