Mercedes-Benz and BMW collaborate to build a supercharging network in China

ABU DHABI: Mercedes Benz and BMW have set aside their rivalry and collaborated to establish a fast-charging network in China. Through this joint venture, they plan to build a thousand supercharging stations by the end of 2026 in China. Along with this, around seven thousand charging points will be offered to EV owners. 

BMW and Mercedes-Benz will inaugurate their first charging stations by the year 2024 in China. These charging points will be strategically positioned in the top NEV regions, with nationwide installations. This combined effort aims to establish a widespread and robust EV charging infrastructure nationwide. These charging stations will be powered by renewable energy resources. 

This high-end supercharging network will be accessible to everyone. But the owners with cars featuring the three-pointed star or roundel star can enjoy some additional perks. Concrete details have not been revealed about these advantages, but Mercedes-Benz and BMW customers will be able to enjoy a seamless digital charging experience, including online booking and plug-and-charge. 

Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz announced it would invest a huge amount of money to build its own charging network of ten thousand fast-charging points in Europe, North America and China by 2030.

As per the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance, China had 2.525 million public charging piles, including 1.435 million AC and 2.525 million public charging piles. The joint venture between Mercedes Benz and BMW will lead to the growth of EV infrastructure in China.
