Mercedes-Benz lends a beefier look to the 2020 all-black X-Class pickup
While the future of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class series is largely uncertain, the German luxury automobile manufacturer seems to be leaving no stone unturned to bolster the sales of its commercial vehicles division.
Mercedes-Benz has released an all-new appearance pack for the X-Class, among increased speculation of the Stuttgart-headquartered company considering to pull the plug on the Navara-based pickup truck. The new X-Class pickup is being branded as the ‘Black Package’, courtesy is the color scheme, and the car looks meaner and beefier than its standard version.
The new Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup gets an overall black paint scheme that includes the sidebars, twin-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels, and the sports bar. That aside, the company is offering the special appearance pack in three black bedcover choices, namely soft cover, rollup, and hard tonneau. The cabin too features the new styling elements via the all-black headliner.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz all-black X-Class pickup will be available only in the top-level X350 d 4Matic model. Customers will get to choose from the Power Edition and Progressive trims. It means that the new all-black X-Class will be hauled by a turbocharged V6 diesel motor which produces 250 PS maximum power and 550 Nm peak torque. This is the only engine option available in the new car. The exterior scheme will include white, silver, gray, blue, and black paint options.
Sources have revealed that the 2020 all-black X-Class pickup will be commercially available from March. The introduction of the Black Package, which is merely a styling pack, has baffled industry observers since the X-Class has never been a mass seller. The car had its world premiere at Cape Town in July 2017 and since then has managed to sell less than 20,000 units. The sales numbers have probably fuelled market rumors that the Daimler-owned company may be contemplating on stopping the production of the X-Class pickup entirely.
Images of the 2020 all-black X-Class pickup now being widely circulated on the internet, according to sources, could be of an extended bed version of the car undergoing tests for the European market. Mercedes-Benz perhaps wants to lend a fresh lease of life to the X-Class.
