Mazda 3 awarded the Women’s World Car of the Year
Dubai International Motor Show saw prize distribution to category winners for the 2019 Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY). Sandy Myhre, the founder of WWCOTY and Shereen Shabnam, the GCC Jury member were present at the stage. While the Mazda 3 was awarded the Supreme Award - The Women’s World Car of the Year, the Family Car Award was also given to Mazda 3 for the year 2019.
The Urban Car Award was pouched by Kia XCeed, while the Green Car Award was won by Kia Soul EV. For the Luxury Car category, the award was given to the BMW 8 Series. The Performance Car of the year was won by the Porsche 911 and the Range Rover Evoque was named the SUV/Crossover of the year.
From a total of 21 nominated cars, the above-mentioned winners were short-listed in seven different categories and selected as winners by 41 jury members hailing from 34 different countries.
The CEO of Citroën, Linda Jackson received the Woman of Worth Award for 2019. This award is dedicated to the woman who, according to the judges, contributed to the motor industry in the most significant manner in the past year. An award in honour of a jury member who passed away in 2016 from New York, known as the Holly Reich Dream Car Award, was given to the Porsche Taycan. The judges are to name the one car that they would love to have.
Sandy Myhre while commenting on the activities for women at the Dubai Motor Show said, “Creating time in a motor show specifically for women is a world first. Women’s World Car of the Year has never announced their results live from a motor show so that’s innovative and to be able to interview women driving instructors from Saudi Arabia live on the stage is pioneering. The fact all these things are happening in Dubai in the UAE is highly symbolic.”
The new Range Rover Evoque has now accumulated a total of 224 international awards. It has certainly pioneered the luxury compact SUV market of the world. Professor Gerry McGovern, who is the Chief Creative Officer at Land Rover said, “It’s an honour for the Evoque to be recognized by the WWCOTY jury. With its compact proportions, this characterful vehicle combines refinement and fun to create that all-important emotional connection that customers love.”
Talking about the Evoque, it is the first-ever luxury crossover to be certified under new and more stringent NOx emissions norms - RDE2 (Real Driving Emissions stage 2). The car is built on the company’s new Premium Transverse Architecture featuring innovative, recycled and natural materials, highly-efficient Ingenium engines and hybrid-electric powertrain options. Its distinctive styling, cutting-edge technology and brand’s heritage quotient makes it unique and one of the most admired cars around the world today. Satisfying the needs of customers globally, the Evoque is available in 127 countries.
