Holding onto its roots, Maserati set to bring new sports car MC20 in May
In the past few decades, Maserati has shifted its lineage to luxurious car making. Originally, Maserati used to dominate the sports car segment and has once again held onto its roots to make a breakthrough with a new era of sports cars. The Italian giant automaker is launching a new lineage of Maserati Sports Cars starting with MC20.
This new speedster MC20 will arrive this spring and will mark the automaker’s return to racing. MC20 is set to debut in May in Modena, Italy, the home of Italian automotive giants such as Pagani, Ferrari, Lamborghini and joining the wagon now is Maserati.
In a press release, the brand revealed that the sports car’s name stands for Maserati Corse 2020—or Maserati Racing 2020 in English. The 20 stands for year 2020 marking “start of a new phase”. The Italian automaker has come up with an unconventional way of revealing the name of its new car to the world. A logo with the name of new model has been appearing on the mainsail of Maserati Multi 70 that is sailing through Caribbean Sea.
Relying on certain fixed terms, MC20, which will eventually have its own racing variant, is meant to be the natural evolution of the MC12, a limited-edition supercar the company produced in 2004.
On the technical intricacies, a lot has not been revealed about this new sports animal, but we do know that it will be a mid-engine sports car. We also expect that it will have some alikeness of an electric powertrain, as Maserati seems to be pulling through with their electrification plans.
On brief investigation of the Maserati’s MC20 spy shots, it shows an agile frame with a short wheelbase, large teledial wheels on the front, and 10 spoke wheels at the back. Due to its size, the MC20 test mule is thought to have been slightly based on the Alfa Romeo 4C.
We are ought to contain our excitement for this new speedster until any further details are unwrapped. It will be an exciting sight to see what Maserati has in store for its customers. Maserati’s local lineup consists of the Ghibli, Quattroporte, Levante, Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio. Let’s wait for any official statement on the models available for customers in the UAE.
