Maserati ends GranTurismo production with one-off GranTurismo Zéda

The production of Maserati GranTurismo has been officially ended. The new GranTurismo will be an EV (electric vehicle) that will be launched in 2021. In order to pay tribute, Maserati has produced a special, one-off GranTurismo Zéda, the one last time. The new GranTurismo Zéda comes with an exclusive gradient paint job that is a mix of blue, black and white.

The colour transition is symbolic to the company’s transition into a new era. While the back of the GranTurismo Zéda gets a satin effect, the front transits into a glossy effect which the company refers as a ‘metallurgic effect’. The word Zéda translates to the letter Z in the regional language of Modena, Italy. According to the company, the moniker indicates that “there is a new beginning for every ending”.

Maserati is in works to launch a new sports car next year inspired by the Alfieri concept. Additionally, there will be a new GranTurismo and a GranCabrio, both powered by an electric drivetrain. They are said to be built in the company’s Turin plant. Further, Maserati will be launching refreshed models of the Levante, Quattroporte and Ghibli in 2020.

For 2021, Maserati has planned a new crossover, a convertible performance model and the latest-gen GranTurismo. Not just this, the company has planned a revised GranCabrio and the next-gen Quattroporte for 2022. Don’t be surprised if you see a new-gen Levante a year later in 2023 because the company is said to be working on that too.

The first GranTurismo was launched in 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show, while the first GranCabrio came into existence in 2009 when it was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The models featured a V8 engine under the hood that was co-developed with Ferrari and the design was care of Pininfarina.

A total of 28,805 units of the coupe and 11,715 units of the convertible have been sold since their inception, as reported by Maserati. No wonder why these models were termed as an important part of the entire brand line-up.
