Lexus LC Convertible previewed ahead of 2019 NAIAS

ABU DHABI: Lexus has taken the wraps off the new LC Convertible which is slated to be revealed at the 2019 NAIAS (North American International Auto Show). While everyone was waiting to hear about the high-performance LC F Coupe, the company played a different card.

The company has kept the same design language as seen on the LC Coupe while granting the LC Convertible a few different and exclusive pieces. Some of them include the black exterior trim and 22-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it gets the custom white leather finish which is aggrandized with contrast stitching in yellow.

Dimension-wise, the Lexus LC Convertible is 10 mm longer and 5 mm lower than the coupe version, measuring 4,770 mm x 1,920 mm x 1,340 mm (L x W x H). The soft-top foldable roof has made its way to the convertible model ditching the previous hard top. There is a space behind the rear seats where the foldable roof rests when folded down.

The model is said to be a concept but it doesn’t seem like such. It seems to be a production-ready model. On the same front, Tadao Mori, the Chief Designer at Lexus said, “This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC Coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible. It blends all the best aspects of the original Coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible.”

What would power the new LC Convertible is still unknown as the company has remained tight-lipped on the same. Expectations are that the Lexus LC Convertible would feature a naturally-aspirated V8 5.0-litre engine that also powers the LC 500. But for confirmation, we’ll have to wait until the grand reveal takes place next week at the NAIAS.
