Isuzu D-Max set to undergo an electric transformation

ABU DHABI: Isuzu reveals its first battery electric vehicle, a variant of the D-Max midsize pickup. It will retain the towing and payload capacity similar to its turbodiesel counterparts. The new electrified model will make its debut on March 27 at the Bangkok International Motor Show. Additionally, Isuzu will offer a glimpse of another D-Max prototype equipped with a mild-hybrid diesel. Although, there is no certainty about its production status.

    While Isuzu has confirmed that the D-Max electric will have a 66.9 kWh battery, it has not disclosed the total range figure. The electric motor will produce around 174 bhp and it will have a top speed of 81 mph.

    In terms of appearance, the Isuzu D-Max BEV boasts a striking front end with a covered grille adorned with blue accents. The dual-cab body seems to be inspired by the ICE-powered D-Max, complemented by "EV Concept" badges on the profile and new six-spoke wheels. There still remains uncertainty about whether the production version will follow this prototype.

    By 2025, Isuzu is planning to debut the D-Max BEV in select European markets, with potential expansion to Thailand, the UK, Australia, and other regions based on the demand and the electric vehicle charging infrastructure development.

    We’re hopeful that the D-Max BEV will arrive in the UAE soon. If it debuts in the UAE it will compete with other electric pickup trucks like the Tesla Cybertruck that have proven their reliability.
