Honda reveals small RS Concept at 2018 Indonesia International Motor Show

ABU DHABI: The ongoing 2018 Indonesia Motor Show is off to a flying start and what could be better than getting to see a concept car from Honda. The Japanese automaker has taken the covers off a small, yet sporty-looking hatchback, which is called the Small RS Concept. And guess what, whoever looks at the car will opine that it is likely to be the next generation of the Brio.

But not only the design, there is one more factor that hints at this Small RS Concept being the next generation update. If we look back to the time when the first Brio concept was unveiled, it was called the “New Small Concept”, quite similar to the present “Small RS Concept”.

The showcased Small RS Concept was painted in a Phoenix Orange Pearl colour tone with additional body kit-like designing. The car looks very rugged all round and that is evident on the excessive black inserts at every corner. Despite having a thick strip of chrome on the front grille, there is an abundant amount of black mesh design. The lower bumper and the ram air intakes get the black mesh layout as well. The door handles, ORVMs, window skirts, and the B-pillars get the blacked-out treatment. The rear gets dual exhaust tips at the two ends. The tailgate panel is a little hunchy and gets a roof spoiler, which looks more like an extra fitment.

However, even if it appears to be an updated and sporty Brio, there are minor changes too. The concept lets go off the full glass rear panel from the standard and takes the more conventional route. Moreover, the tail lights are different and are a little like the ones on the Ford Figo.

If we look into the mechanical bits, no such detail has been revealed. However, we can expect it to get the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine unit from the Brio RS of Indonesia. If that is the case, the engine could be capable of making 89 bhp of maximum power and 109 Nm of peak torque. But considering the reputation of Honda cars in the Middle East, the engine may be tweaked a little to extract some extra horses of power.

But even after the showcase of the Small RS Concept, we cannot ascertain the production model will hit the roads of UAE or not as the standard Brio is not on sale in the country.
