Honda 2019 Passport teased, to be unveiled at 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show
ABU DHABI: Honda, the Japanese automaker is one of the big names when it comes to offering a variety of crossovers globally. The Pilot, HR-V, BR-V, and CR-V are shining in various markets already. To strengthen further its crossover portfolio, Honda USA is working on a new compact SUV called Passport, which will supposedly be unveiled at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. The new model will sit between the CR-V and Pilot.
‘Passport’ is not an entirely new name. The same name was used by the Isuzu Rodeo’s badge-engineered version from 90’s to the early 2000’s. Honda has recently released a couple of teaser photos of the brand new Passport, and by the looks, it nowhere looks like a rebadged mu-X. However, Honda has confirmed that the brand-new Passport will also be good to run in off-roading conditions.
According to senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Henio Arcangeli, Jr., the new Passport will be a personal, off-road-capable, powerful SUV. Simply put, the SUV will be capable of all-weather adventure.
From the teased photos, all we can see that most of the part of the vehicle are covered with dust. However, a large sunroof can be identified and it will come with Pilot-like tail lights and a dashing tailgate. It is likely to have three rows of sets inside as the seven-seater cars are high on demand nowadays. The vehicle was designed and developed by Honda R&D Americas, while the Lincoln, Alabama plant will host the production.
As per the manufacturer’s words, the Passport will be debuted globally so it is likely to be available outside the US too. However, Honda has not announced yet about the markets while the SUV will come. After being hit to the market, the Passport will give a tough competition to the likes of Jeep Grand Cherokee, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, and Kia Sorento.
