First-ever Aston Martin SUV, the DBX revealed

The British automaker, Aston Martin, has stepped into the promising market of SUVs with its first-ever SUV called the DBX. It is a five-seater SUV with dynamics and characteristics carried over from its family of sports cars.

At the front, the DBX gets the signature ‘DB’ grille, corner chrome housing for the fog lamps and a masculine bonnet. The sides are sculpted with a visual treat of door-mounted side mirrors, chrome-garnished window pane and sloping roofline. The rear section gets stylish and sleek taillamps that connect each other with a LED strip in a protruding manner and a sporty rear spoiler.

Powering the DBX is the same twin-turbo V8 4.0-litre engine as on the Vantage and DB11, capable of pumping out a max power of 558 PS and a peak torque of 700 Nm, mated to a 9-speed torque converter auto transmission system. The AWD system comes with an electronic rear limited-slip differential and an active central differential. The DBX is said to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds. Its recorded top speed is 291 kmph. The steering on the DBX is said to be tuned for sports car-like performance.

As a part of better terrain handling, Aston Martin has blessed the DBX with the ability to raise and lower by 45mm and 50mm respectively. Additionally, it gets an adaptive triple volume air suspension unit along with electronic adaptive dampers and a 48V electric anti-roll control system.

Inside the cabin, the DBX gets the class-leading legroom and headroom, frameless door glass and a full-length glass panoramic roof. The full-grain leather for seats is courtesy of Bridge of Weir, the brand’s long-term business partner. The cabin is finished with numerous wood, glass and metal accents. The headling and electric roof blind are, however, available in Alcantara finish. Offering a boot space of 632 litres and split-folding rear seat configuration as 40:20:40, the DBX promises to be as versatile as possible.

The DBX underpins a special, dedicated SUV platform, something that’s new to the industry. The body is light yet stiff, thanks to the bonded aluminium construction method. The overall kerb weight of the SUV is 2,245 kg.

Dr Andy Palmer, the Group CEO and Aston Martin Lagonda President said, “I can’t emphasise enough how incredibly exciting and significant DBX is for Aston Martin. Through its development alone, this beautiful SUV has already taken the company into new territories and in inspiring directions.”

The company has announced that the first 500 owners of the SUV will get the DBX with an exclusive ‘1913 Package’ consisting of sill plaques, inspection plaque with limited build-run and a unique fender badge. Additionally, Andy will personally inspect and endorse these first models. Not just this, each customer will receive an invitation to a Waldorf Astoria celebration cocktail party hosted by an executive member of the Aston Martin Lagonda and a unique build-book autographed by Marek Reichman, the CEO and CCO (Chief Creative Officer).

The Aston Martin DBX will be manufactured at the brand’s facility in St Athan, Wales. To own this SUV, you need to shell out AED 848,000, deliveries of which will begin from mid-2020.
