2018 Ferrari Portofino revealed for the local market
ABU DHABI: Ferrari has continued celebrations of its 70th anniversary by announcing its latest model: The Portofino. It is supposed to be a replacement for Ferrari’s California T and has been unveiled in the UAE before the Dubai International Motor Show. This news is huge and has all luxury car enthusiasts in the UAE awestruck since it is the first time a Ferrari has been unveiled outside of Europe.
It is named after a beautiful fishing village located on the coastline of the Italian Riviera near Genoa and was displayed at the One & Only Royal Mirage hotel in Dubai, in all its convertible glory. The California T has set very high standards for its customers, and it is often referred to as the “everyday Ferrari”. This is why Ferrari spokespeople were seen doing their best marketing for the Portofino and explaining what makes it a better buy.
The V8-powered convertible GT offers a meaner proposition than the California T. While it has retained many of the design features of its successor, it is also inspired by some of the angrier, more-angular lines of fellow Ferrari newcomer, the 812 Superfast.
The Portofino impresses with its figures of 592 hp of maximum power and 760 Nm of peak torque. It has a maximum speed of 320 km ph and ability to go from 0 to 100 kmph in mere 3.5 seconds. All these demonstrate a huge leap in performance of the Portofino from the California T.
Additionally, the Portofino has increased legroom for the back seats as well as a larger boot than the previous models. The beauty of the convertible is achieved with a fastback design that has body lines following the roof and the taper at the boot. Features that compliment the beauty of the Portofino are full LED headlights, a long bonnet, sleek body lines and a broad rear that has a sculpted wing and tail lights.
The insides are adorned with leather of the highest quality and a carbon fiber finishing, complimented by the traditional Ferrari steering wheel and paddle shifters. The Portofino is also home to a stunning 10.2-inch infotainment screen for navigation and Apple CarPlay purposes. There is a separate display for the passenger to browse the playlist and look at the speed, rev meter and other settings the car is going at.
The Portofino will be also showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show, starting on the September 14.
