F40 design twist for Ferrari’s new V8 supercar
ABU DHABI: Ferrari is all set to unveil the replacement of the mid-engined 488 GTB with a new model. This will be called the F8 Tributo, which the company says will be “one of the fastest, most thrilling, and communicative supercars ever.”
The new design language for the F8 Tributo is said to emphasise Ferrari’s high-performance nature and extreme aerodynamic efficiency. With this in mind, the F8 employs rearward-angled front radiators and dynamic engine air intakes positioned on either side of the spoiler instead of the rear flanks. These features have been derived from the 488 Pista. The highlight feature of the F8 Tributo is the return of the classic twin/body-colored taillight cluster, a distinct design element of the iconic Ferrari F40. At the front, the new Ferrari is characterised by its S-Duct, which increases the downforce by 15% while the compact LED headlights to allow for new brake cooling intakes. A new Lexan rear screen is used to showcase the engine compartment. The Ferrari Styling Centre did design for this new F8 Tributo.
Speaking of the engine, the F8 Tributo churns out an impressive 720 bhp and 770 Nm of torque. This is 50 bhp more than the 488 GTB. Weighing in at 1,330 kg, the F8 is 40 kg lighter than the 488 GTB and has a 10% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency. All this means a 0-100 kmph time of 2.9 seconds while 0-200 kmph takes just 7.8 seconds.
Hop inside and you are greeted by the classic Ferrari driver-oriented cockpit. You get a small diameter steering wheel along with a new-generation 7-inch passenger touchscreen display. Round air vents add to the sportiness inside.
Armed with killer looks and more performance, the F8 Tributo might be the supercar of choice for Ferrari lovers. It will be interesting to see how other manufacturers respond to this and all roads lead to the Geneva Motor Show next week.
