Electric Mini Cooper JCW leaked ahead of official reveal

ABU DHABI: In China, automakers need to submit design specifications and vehicle information before selling their vehicles. The Information from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveals important details about the all-electric Mini John Cooper Works hatchback.

While battery details have not been confirmed by MIIT, the JCW is expected to use the same 49.2 kWh battery found in the Cooper SE, which provides a WLTP range of around 401 km. However, the JCW's range will likely be slightly lower due to its 258 hp front axle-mounted motor. Mini claims the electric hatchback can reach a top speed of up to 200 kmph, and it accelerates from 0-100 kmph faster than the SE's 6.7 seconds.

The Aceman JCW is equipped with the same 258 hp motor that you can find in the Mini JCW, but it weighs around 1,768 kg, which makes it 98 kg heavier. Specification details about both models are still not available.

Both JCW models are available with various design elements such as aggressive side skirts, sportier bumpers, aerodynamic 18-inch wheels (for the hatchback), and contrasting exterior finishes, such as blacked-out pillars and nose. The interior is expected to be sportier with body-hugging seats and interesting details typical of this model’s hot version. On both cars, JCW badges are present that are also expected to appear in the interiors.

In comparison to the SE, the Cooper JCW is anticipated to have a lower ride height but this has not been specified in the MIIT documents.
