Chevy Camaro eCOPO coming at the 2018 SEMA

ABU DHABI: There is no denying that the Chevy Camaro COPO is something people absolutely love as it lives for the drag track. The perfectly tuned V8 engine with a supercharger and thick tyres are the defining highlights.

However, there is something different that General Motor is up for in this year’s SEMA. What is to be noted here is that this new thing will manage to woo you even more than the regular version.

If that is enough of a buildup already, here is the Chevy Camaro eCOPO concept, a completely electric car that is meant to replace the regular gasoline supercharged version. What is even more amazing is that this electric motor is good enough to pin down any other muscle car on the quarter-mile. It has been built to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first COPO car.

 

Undoubtedly, the eCOPO from Chevrolet is definitely a car to live on the track. It is powered by two BorgWarner HVH 250-150 electric motors. Together, they can churn out a maximum power of over 700 PS along with peak torque that goes well over 800 Nm. And with such power figures on paper, it is expected to complete the drag strip in just nine seconds.

The produced power is sent down to the rear wheels (which is the same as the mainstream V8 COPO) via a Turbo 400 automatic gearbox unit. Besides this, the company says that the gearbox and the motor are placed on the similar bell-housing pattern as the other LS engines. Hence, this will make hooking up the GM transmission to the motor easier.

 

Russ O'Blenes, the Director of Performance, Parts and Motorsports for General Motors has said that the eCOPO signifies where the company is heading with its performance electric cars in the future. It will be displayed as a concept at the upcoming SEMA. Along with this, there will also be the 50th Anniversary Camaro COPO besides some other concepts that the company is working on presently.
