Chevrolet ends production of the Camaro sports car

ABU DHABI: Chevrolet has announced that the production of the sixth-generation Camaro will come to an end in January 2024. The sixth-generation Camaro symbolises power, stylish design, and performance. Since its debut, it has carved a benchmark in the automotive world and captured the hearts of car enthusiasts. 

The final car that will mark the end of the assembly line is a ZL1 1LE variant. It will be equipped with a 6.2-litre V8 engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. 

General Motors has not disclosed if the last Camaro will go on sale, but it has confirmed that it will introduce the limited Camaro Collector's Edition. Its production will be limited to 350 units and it will mark the current-generation model’s end. 

The Camaro has an illustrious history dating back to 1967. Until 2003 it underwent four generations, followed by a gap of seven years before the fifth-generation’s launch in 2010. 

The sixth-generation Camaro debuted in 2016 and performed well on the racetrack. But in recent years its sales have been going down. When this model was launched in 2016, Chevrolet sold 72,705 of them. But the number fell by the end of 2021 to 21,893. Last year it rebounded to 24,652 but the sales figure is still quite low. It is estimated that the absence of a successor and the current-gen model’s production halt led to a pause in the Camaro's 50-year history.
